What it’s like

A two-and-three-quarter-hour West End musical at the Apollo Victoria, best for kids who can sit through flashing lights and a proper story.

This is a sit-down, watch-the-story night out rather than anything hands-on, so it suits kids who can manage nearly three hours in a seat. There's one 20-minute interval to break it up, but the show itself runs long, and evening performances don't finish until around quarter past ten, which is a late one for a school night with younger kids.

The age line is firm: under-5s aren't let in at all, whatever the ticket says, and anyone 15 or under has to sit next to an adult. There's smoke, strobe lighting and loud noises through the show, so if your seven-year-old is jumpy about that kind of thing, worth thinking about before you book.

Ticket prices vary a lot depending on how you buy. Front Row seats and the Daily Dozen day seats are both £29.50 with no extra fees, but you have to be quick and a bit lucky: Front Row releases every Wednesday at 10am for the following week, and the Daily Dozen drops fresh every performance day at 10am on the TodayTix app. Turn up without planning and you're more likely paying full whack.

Latecomers only get let in at the interval, roughly 25 minutes into the show, and there's no refund if you miss the start, so leave plenty of time. There's no cloakroom either, so don't bring a big bag or a suitcase, it genuinely won't be allowed in. Victoria station is a minute's walk, which helps if you're not driving in.

How much are tickets?

Front Row and the Daily Dozen day seats are both £29.50 with no booking fees, but they're limited and go fast. Standard prices start from £25 and climb from there depending on the seat.

How do we get the cheaper seats?

Front Row tickets drop every Wednesday at 10am for the following week's shows. The Daily Dozen is a smaller batch released each performance day at 10am, only through the TodayTix app.

Is it OK for a young child?

Under-5s can't come in at all, no exceptions. It's billed as suiting age 7 and up, and there's smoke and strobe lighting through the show that's worth bearing in mind for a sensitive kid.

How long does it run?

Two hours 45 minutes with a 20-minute interval in the middle. Evening shows starting at 7:30pm finish around 10:15pm, which is late if you've got school the next day.

Do we need to book ahead?

Yes, and don't leave it to the day unless you're chasing the Daily Dozen. Popular dates and the best seats go early.

What happens if we're running late?

You'll be held outside until the interval, about 25 minutes in, and there's no refund for missing the start. Give yourself more time than you think you need getting to Victoria.

Can we bring a big bag or suitcase?

No, there's no cloakroom at the theatre and large bags aren't allowed in. Small bags and coats can go under your seat, so pack light.

Is there parking nearby?

Q-Park Pimlico on Cumberland Street is the closest option. Victoria Underground and mainline stations are both a couple of minutes' walk, so the tube is probably easier.

Are there discounts for students or seniors?

Students pay £35 in person at the box office with ID, and seniors along with Equity, BECTU and MU members get £39.50, also in person only. Both are capped at two tickets per ID.

What about group bookings or school trips?

Groups of 10 or more get a price break, and school and education groups start from £19.50 with free teacher tickets thrown in. You'll need to sort this through Wicked's group booking route rather than the normal calendar.

Can wheelchair users book accessible seats?

Through the theatre's access membership scheme, and a personal assistant ticket is available if you need one. Sort this ahead of the show rather than on the day.
