What it’s like

A big West End show, currently Hamilton, running just under three hours with a proper interval.

This is a show night, not a day out with the buggy. Hamilton is what's on at the Victoria Palace and it runs about 2 hours 45 minutes, interval included, so you're looking at a proper evening commitment rather than something you can duck out of early.

Performances are Monday to Saturday at 7:30pm, with 2:30pm matinees on Thursdays and Saturdays if you'd rather not be out late with a ten-year-old on a school night. That's the sensible move if bedtime matters to you, and it means you can skip the tube home in the dark.

The age line here is firm: under-3s aren't let in at all, and anyone under 16 needs an adult with them who's actually 18 or over, not an older sibling. Latecomers aren't guaranteed a seat until there's a natural break in the show, which for something as tightly plotted as Hamilton could be a while, so turning up on time actually matters rather than being a nagging parent thing. No food or drink from outside is allowed in, which stings a bit if you've already bought snacks on the way, though the theatre does sell its own.

Lottery tickets go for £10, which is the way in if the standard prices make you wince, though there's no guarantee of getting one. The venue's wheelchair accessible and runs the GalaPro app for captioning and audio description at every performance, plus dedicated Audio Described and Captioned nights if you need those specifically.

No, outside food and drink isn't allowed in the theatre.

Is there a cheaper way to get tickets?

There are £10 lottery tickets, though getting one isn't guaranteed. Group and school discounts are also available if you're going with a bigger crowd.
