What it’s like
A broad-side base for sailing, windsurfing, paddleboarding and climbing, with raft building and orienteering thrown in.
This is a place to get properly wet and properly busy rather than watch from the bank. On Whitlingham Great Broad you can hire a craft for the day at £10 and get out on the water, or sign up for a proper sailing or windsurfing course if you want more than a paddle about. Paddlesport and stand up paddleboarding are both on offer too, so if balance isn't your thing there's a sit down option.
Beyond the water there's climbing, raft building and orienteering and team challenges on land, which makes it easy to mix a morning on the broad with an afternoon doing something that doesn't involve falling in. Raft building in particular sounds like the bit kids will bring up at tea time, arguing about whose knot held.
Buoyancy aids are compulsory, which is fair enough given the setting, and hire is £3 if you haven't got your own. Between the craft hire, the courses and the climbing there's enough here to fill a full day out, and school visits and group bookings are catered for if you're organising more than just your own family.
Birthday parties are also on the list of things they do, so if you've got a child who'd rather spend their birthday on a paddleboard than in a soft play, this is worth having in mind.

Plan your visit
Do we need to book?
There's a booking link, so it looks like courses and craft hire need sorting in advance rather than turning up on spec.
How much does it cost?
Craft hire is £10 per craft per day, and a buoyancy aid is £3 if you need one. Courses like sailing and windsurfing aren't priced here, so you'd want to check when you book.
Are buoyancy aids compulsory?
Yes, they're mandatory on the water. Hire one for £3 if you don't own one.
What can the kids actually do there?
Sailing, windsurfing, paddleboarding, raft building, climbing and orienteering are all listed, so there's plenty to switch between if attention spans are short.
Can you do a birthday party there?
Birthday parties are one of the things they offer, alongside group bookings and school visits.
