What it’s like

Indoor bouldering and roped climbing with kids sessions, termly clubs and birthday parties on the wall.

The main event here is getting up the wall, whether that's a drop-in climb with supervision or one of the kids sessions they run. There are termly clubs too if your child takes to it and wants a regular slot rather than a one-off visit, and birthday parties if you fancy handing over the chaos of turning seven to someone else for an afternoon.

First visit involves a registration fee of £2.50 and a safety test, which is a bit of a faff when you just want to get climbing, but it's a one-off and after that you're in the system. Peak adult entry is £16, off-peak £13, with junior and concession prices a bit lower at £13 and £11. Wednesdays are cheaper again for students at £9. If you're not climbing yourself but want to belay or just keep an eye on things, that's £3.50.

Opening hours are generous on weekdays, 10am to 10pm, which means an after-school or evening climb is easy to fit in. Weekends are shorter, 8am to 7.30pm, so if you want a lazy Sunday morning start you've got a bit less time to play with than a weekday evening session. Booking is required, so this isn't one to turn up to on spec.

It's an indoor centre, so the weather outside makes no difference to your plans. There's a gift shop on site if you want a memento of the visit, though what else is around in terms of food isn't something they list, so it might be worth eating before or after rather than counting on lunch there.
