What it’s like

Indoor bouldering for kids and teens, with an auto belay wall and no minimum age for supervised climbers.

This is a bouldering centre first, so there are no ropes and harnesses for most of the walls, just mats underneath and problems set at different heights and angles. Instructed sessions start at age seven, but if you're a confident climber yourself you can supervise up to two children with no age limit at all, which is handy if you've got a four-year-old who just wants to have a go on the easy angled stuff. The auto belay wall is there too, for the ones who've outgrown bouldering and want the height.

Pricing is split into off-peak, peak and a cheaper "magic time" band, and juniors aged 4 to 10 pay £8 to £10 depending on when you go. Under-4s get in for £3.50 any time. Shoes are £4.50 to hire and chalk another £2.50, and there's a one-off £2 registration fee for new climbers on top, so factor that in for a first visit. New climbers do get £5 off their second trip, which softens the blow a bit.

You don't need to book to turn up and climb, just pre-register online first. Instructed sessions are a different matter and you'll want to book those ahead, and be aware the deposit's non-refundable if you cancel too close to the date, which is a proper faff if plans change. The café does hot food including freshly made pizzas, which is more than you get at most climbing centres, and there's a decent stretch of a visit to be had once you count changing, climbing and refuelling.

Parking is free but limited, and only in the marked HarroWall bays, since the local enforcement is described as strict. It's a cashless venue too, so leave the notes at home, and card only, Amex not accepted.

Plan your visit

How much does it cost?

Juniors aged 4 to 10 are £8 off-peak or £10 peak, under-4s are £3.50 any time. Adults range from £8 in the magic time slot up to £17 at peak, plus a £2 registration fee for new climbers.

Is there a minimum age?

No minimum age for supervised children if you're a competent adult climber who can show the staff you know what you're doing. Instructed sessions start at age seven.

Do we need to book?

Turn up and climb once you've pre-registered online. Instructed sessions need booking ahead, and the deposit's non-refundable if you cancel late.

Is there parking?

Free parking on site, but it's limited and only in the marked bays. The local parking enforcement is strict, so don't chance it elsewhere.

What about food?

There's a café doing hot food, including freshly made pizzas and weekly specials, plus the usual coffee and snacks.

Do we need to bring our own shoes?

Climbing shoes are £4.50 to hire from reception if you don't have your own, and chalk is £2.50.

Can card only, or do you take cash?

Card only, it's a cashless venue, and they don't take Amex.

Is it suitable for a toddler?

There's no minimum age for supervised children, and under-3s have their own price band at £3.50, so a toddler can join in with a confident adult climbing alongside.

Is it very physical?

Less than it looks. Easier angled climbs are more about balance and a bit of flexibility than raw strength, so it's not just for the super fit.

Are there changing rooms and showers?

Gender-neutral changing cubicles, toilets and showers, plus accessible toilets and baby changing.

Can anyone take part regardless of ability?

Climbing's pitched as inclusive and most people can take part to some degree. If you've got specific needs, it's best to let the centre know beforehand by phone or email.
