Whickham Library
ENTRY
Free
WHERE
Whickham, Newcastle upon Tyne
What it’s like
A free local library where you can borrow books and audio books, with parking and wifi on site.
Borrowing books is the whole point here, and that's no bad thing. Audio books are on offer too, which is handy if you've got a car journey coming up and a child who refuses to listen to anything you put on.
It's free to get in, which makes it an easy one to slot into a wet Wednesday morning without any planning. Just mind that Wednesday closes at 1pm, along with Saturday, so those aren't the days for a long browse. Thursday's the long day if you want more time, open right up to 7pm.
There's wifi if you need to get something done while you're there, and an accessible toilet on site. Parking's available too, so you're not stuck hunting for a space on the street.
It won't fill an afternoon on its own, but as a quick stop to swap some books over or dodge a downpour, it does the job without any fuss.
