What it’s like

Story and Rhyme Time, a children's corner stuffed with books and games, and free holiday craft sessions in a grade 2 listed library.

Story and Rhyme Time is the regular fixture here, and the children's corner does the rest of the work on an ordinary afternoon, with books and games to dig into while you have a look at the noticeboards or grab a coffee. During school holidays there are craft sessions too, which is the sort of free, low-effort plan that's easy to say yes to when the weather's rubbish.

It's free to get in, which counts for a lot when you're filling an afternoon with a small child who has opinions about how long you're allowed to stay anywhere. The building itself is grade 2 listed, so it's got a bit more character than your average library branch, and there's indoor seating if you want to sit with a coffee while they get through the games in the children's corner.

Hours are a bit uneven, worth knowing before you plan around it. Tuesday and Thursday it's open a full day, 9:30am to 5:30pm, Saturday runs to 4:30pm, but Friday is a short morning only, 9:30am to 12:30pm, and it doesn't open at all on Monday, Wednesday or Sunday from what's listed. There's no booking system mentioned.
