What it’s like

Free garden with a fairy village and playhouse to hunt down, plus locally made sculptures dotted along the paths.

There's a fairy village tucked into the planting here, the sort of thing that turns a five-minute wander into twenty minutes of hunting for the next tiny door. Add a playhouse in the garden itself, and sculptures made on-site by local artists to spot along the way, and you've got a walk round that doesn't feel like just a walk round. It's free to get in, which makes it an easy one to add to a Tuesday-to-Sunday plan without worrying about whether it's worth the money.

Paths are wheelchair accessible throughout, and the toilet is too, so buggies shouldn't struggle either. Dogs on leads are welcome in the garden and the marquee, which is handy if the walk's a family-and-dog outing rather than just the kids. Parking is across the street rather than on-site, so budget a minute or two for that.

The Orangery Cafe does sandwiches, treats, and hot and cold drinks, and it's wheelchair-accessible too, so a stop for a snack after the fairy village hunt is easy enough. Card is accepted but so is cash, which isn't something you can always bank on these days. Open 9am to 4pm, Tuesday to Sunday, so it's a Monday to plan round something else.
