What it’s like
A free churchyard arts and crafts market with over 120 makers spread across five levels, running through the Edinburgh Festival.
This one's less "attraction" and more a proper wander. Over 120 designers, makers and artists set up shop in a churchyard turned into an Arts & Craft village, spread across five different levels. That's a lot of ground to cover, and a lot of stalls for a curious kid to stop at and ask what something is.
It's free to get in, which counts for a lot in August when everything else in Edinburgh seems to want your money. Running the whole month from the 3rd to the 30th, 11am to 6pm, means you can pick a quiet-looking morning rather than fighting through festival crowds on a Saturday afternoon.
Five levels in a churchyard suggests steps and slopes rather than flat paths, so it's worth thinking about that if you've got a buggy or little legs that tire. There's no booking involved, you just turn up during opening hours and see what's there that day, since the stallholders will change through the run.
It suits a slower kind of day out. Not one where the kids charge about, more one where they get dragged round nice-smelling stalls while you look at pottery, but there's enough different to look at across five levels that most children find something to stop and stare at.
