What it’s like

A small contemporary art space in Edinburgh worth a quick look if you're passing with the pram.

This is a gallery rather than a kids' attraction, so don't expect activity sheets or a dressing-up box. What you get is changing contemporary art exhibitions, which means the visit is really about wandering round and seeing what's on the walls that week rather than anything hands-on.

That makes it a short stop by nature. Twenty minutes for a toddler in a buggy who wants to look at colours and shapes, longer if you've got an older child who actually reads the labels. It's open Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 5pm, and Saturday until 4pm, so a weekday morning before nap time is an easy window to aim for.

One thing to flag: the gallery closes on installation days and when the team's off at art fairs, so the programme isn't fixed year round. There's no booking system listed, which is one less thing to organise, but it also means you can't check ahead exactly what's showing before you turn up.

Treat it as a change of pace rather than the main event of the day, maybe paired with a walk or something with more running about either side of it.

Plan your visit

What are the opening hours?

Tuesday to Friday 10am to 5pm, Saturday 10am to 4pm. Closed Sundays and Mondays.

Do we need to book?

There's no booking link listed, so it looks like you can just turn up during opening hours.

Is it always open when the site says?

Not always. It closes during exhibition installation days and when they're at art fairs, so the programme shifts around.

How long do people spend there?

It's a gallery, so most visits are short. Enough time to walk round the current exhibition rather than a full morning out.
