What it’s like
Free contemporary Scottish art to wander round, with talks and private views if you catch the right date.
This one's a browse rather than a play. Contemporary Scottish painting and sculpture on the walls, and it costs nothing to walk in and have a look. There's no soft play, no trail sheet, no button to press, so it suits a kid who can cope with looking rather than doing, or one you're happy to keep moving along at their own pace.
The free artist talks and private views are the bit worth timing a visit around if you can. That's where it stops being a quiet wander and turns into something with a bit more going on, people, wine for the grown-ups, art to actually talk about rather than just look at.
It's a small, ground floor space with no steps to worry about, and dogs are welcome if yours comes everywhere with you. The one snag is the toilet, it's tucked away in a private part of the building without much signage, and the doors are too narrow for a wheelchair, so plan around that if it matters to you. There's on street parking outside, and the number 36 bus stops right by Hamilton Place opposite Stockbridge Library if you're coming without a car.
Hours shift a bit through the week, open from 11 on weekdays and 10 at weekends, closing an hour later on weekdays too. It shuts over Christmas and New Year, from 23 December to 2 January, then it's back to normal from the 3rd.

Plan your visit
How much does it cost?
Nothing, entry's free.
Do we need to book?
There's no booking link listed, so it looks like you can just turn up in opening hours.
Is it OK for a toddler?
There's nothing hands-on for kids here, it's a gallery to walk round, so it suits an older child who can manage a quieter browse better than a toddler who wants to touch everything.
What are the opening hours?
11 to 6 Tuesday to Friday, 10 to 5 on weekends. It's closed from 23 December to 2 January for the festive break.
Is there parking nearby?
On street parking outside, and the number 36 bus stops at Hamilton Place just opposite, near Stockbridge Library.
