What it’s like
A free-to-wander garden centre day out with a family farm, an adventure playground and a pets and aquatics centre to nose round.
This isn't just a garden centre with a café bolted on. There's a Family Farm with animal encounters for the kids to get stuck into, an adventure playground, and a Pets & Aquatics Centre where you can wander the fish tanks and small animal enclosures without spending a penny. Getting onto the site itself doesn't cost anything, which makes it an easy yes on a grey Tuesday when everyone's climbing the walls at home.
The catch is that nothing on site runs to the same clock. The Family Farm opens at 10 and closes at 4.30 in summer, an hour earlier in winter, while the main garden centre stays open until 5.30 most days. If your plan hinges on the farm or the playground, head there first rather than assuming one closing time covers the lot.
Food isn't going to be the problem. Between The Bothy, the Walled Garden restaurant, Courtyard Kitchen and The Pantry, there's enough choice on site that you won't be stuck negotiating over the last flapjack. Parking is free with over a thousand spaces in the main car park, and there are free village car parks a short walk away too if that fills up.
Dogs are welcome around the site, though they shouldn't be left in the car while you're inside. Access is level or ramped across the grounds, and there are a few wheelchairs to borrow, but disabled parking bays are limited so it's one to bear in mind if you're travelling with someone who needs one close to the door.

Plan your visit
Is it free to get in?
Walking round the garden centre, the farm, the playground and the aquatics centre doesn't cost anything to enter.
What are the opening hours?
The garden centre runs 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Saturday and 9.30am to 4.30pm on Sundays. The Family Farm keeps shorter hours, 10am to 4.30pm in summer and 10am to 4pm in winter.
Do we need to book?
There's no booking link listed, so you'd just turn up during opening hours.
Is there parking?
Over a thousand free spaces in the main car park, plus free village car parks a few hundred yards away if you need them.
Can we bring the dog?
Dogs are welcome around the site but shouldn't be left in the car while you're inside.
What food is on offer?
There's a proper choice: The Bothy restaurant, the Walled Garden restaurant, Courtyard Kitchen for takeaway, The Pantry, and a seasonal Chicken Coop Café.
Is it wheelchair accessible?
All areas are level or reached by ramps, and there are a limited number of wheelchairs to hire on site. Carers get in free on a one-to-one basis.
Is there disabled parking?
Yes, but only a limited number of bays, so it's worth bearing in mind if you're in a group.
Are there baby changing facilities?
Every toilet block on site has baby changing facilities.
Does everything on site open at the same time?
No. The garden centre, restaurants, farm and aquatics centre all run to their own hours, so it pays to check which bit you're heading for first.
