What it’s like

Holiday camps and wrap-around care for 5 to 13 year olds, with everything from archery and den building to a waterpark slide and swimming sessions.

Days here swing between properly active and properly daft. There's football, archery and den building on one side, then silent disco, NERF battles and sucker archery on the other, plus a 50ft inflatable assault course under their WOW equipment banner. Swimming's in the mix too for the fives and up, with a qualified lifeguard on poolside and an initial swim test so your child ends up with the right level of support, armbands included if they need them.

The waterpark with its "huge slide" reads like the bit kids will bring up at teatime, though Forest School sessions are in there for the calmer stretches of the day. Morning drop-off starts at 7:30am and evening wrap-around runs 3:30pm to 5:30pm, which is a decent window if your own day doesn't finish on the dot. Miss that 5:30 cut-off though and it's a £6 late collection charge, worth building in a buffer for if you're coming from the other side of York.

Food comes round several times across breakfast and evening clubs, and they run a genuinely no-nut environment rather than just saying it, so nut-containing snacks from home are a no. Staff are DBS checked and mostly come from a childcare or PE coaching background, which is reassuring for the more physical sessions like the assault course. Winter does change the shape of the day a bit: outdoor time gets cut off earlier for light and weather, and coats are compulsory if anyone's heading outside once that time's passed.

Half-term camps are already open for booking, with a 10% discount if you get in by the early-October deadline, and there's a Forest School day pencilled in for the 26th at Headlands Primary. Summer brings swimming sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays across a few venues, so it's not a single-site operation once the holidays properly kick in.

What age range is this for?

Five to thirteen. Swimming sessions specifically are open to age 5 and up, all abilities.

What time can I drop off and collect?

Drop-off from 7:30am, and evening wrap-around collection runs 3:30pm to 5:30pm. Collecting after 5:30pm means a £6 late charge.

Is there food provided?

Food and drink come round a few times during breakfast and evening clubs, including options for snacks. It's a no-nut environment, so leave nut-containing food at home.

What's the swimming session like?

It's an optional hour within the holiday energy programme, with a qualified lifeguard on poolside and coaches supporting in the pool. There's an initial swim test so they can work out ability and provide armbands if needed.

Does my child need to bring anything?

Just the usual school-day items, snacks or a reading book are fine. Electronics and games are best left at home as they might get broken.

Does winter change how the day runs?

Outdoor play gets cut off earlier once the weather or light turns, and a coat is compulsory for anyone going outside after that point. The rest of the time it's under shelter or indoors.
