What it’s like
Adults-only city gym with an 8,000 sq ft floor, a hot yoga studio and 45-minute Sweat X classes, from £345 a month plus a joining fee.
This one's adults only, so leave the kids at home. Third Space City is a members' gym, and what you're paying for is the floor itself: over 8,000 sq ft of open-plan training space with a custom-built rig, Technogym resistance machines, free weights and Woodway treadmills. The cycle studio is the standout, with tiered bikes, light displays and industrial headwind turbines doing the work of a fan that isn't there. If you like being pushed rather than left alone with a playlist, the classes are the reason to join.
Sweat X alternates running and strength on and off the treadmill, and Just Ride is the tempo cycling session. Both run 45 minutes, which is a sensible length for a lunch break if you're working near Fenchurch Street, three minutes' walk away. There's also a hot yoga studio with infrared-mirrored heater panels, and personal training with strength and conditioning coaches if you want someone watching your form.
The cost is the honest catch. Group Plus is £345 a month and the joining fee on top is £200, which is a lot before you've touched a weight. The Group and City joining fee is £100, though they say it's subject to waitlists, and club access is staggered, so your confirmed start date comes later than you might expect. Premium lockers are a separate monthly rental, and Group membership doesn't cover Mayfair or Chelsea if you were hoping to hop between clubs.
Hours are wide: 05:30 to 22:00 Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 20:00 at weekends and on bank holidays, so early mornings and late evenings are both covered. Natural Fitness Food is on site, with lean, fuel and vegetarian menus, and the City counter opens 7:00 to 20:00 Monday to Thursday, 7:00 to 18:00 Friday and 9:30 to 16:30 at weekends.
