What it’s like

A 13-metre climbing wall and a boxing ring in an adults-only Canary Wharf health club, with 45-minute classes and a café on site.

This one's adults only. It's a members' health club, and the site doesn't mention anything for children, so leave the kids at home and come for the climbing wall: 13 metres, six auto belays and 25 routes graded 4+ to 7B. If you've got a head for heights, that's the bit to save for last. There's also a combat zone with a boxing ring and eight punch bags, which is a proper rarity in a city gym.

Classes run 45 minutes and they're the reason a lot of people join: The WOD and Formula 3 are the signature ones, Sweat X splits the time between running and strength on and off the treadmill, and Just Ride is tempo cycling with climbs and sprints. You can book personal training, and the Performance Lab does testing. Swim training happens at the Wood Wharf pool, a five-minute walk away, so it's worth knowing which site you're heading to before you set off.

Here's the honest catch. Prices aren't on the site, only an enquiry form. Premium lockers are rented by the month rather than free, and the Wellness Spa at this club isn't open yet. Facilities otherwise look solid: changing rooms with places to change, lockers, indoor seating and a café.

The Natural Fitness Food café inside the club runs 7:00 to 21:00 on weekdays and 8:30 to 16:30 at weekends, handy if you're training before work or want something after a weekend session. Club hours are 05:30 to 22:30 Monday to Friday and 08:00 to 20:00 Saturday, Sunday and bank holidays. Members get 25% off a first spa booking, and the Sports Med clinic takes non-members too if you need it.
