What it’s like
A charity adventure play space for disabled children and young people, built around messy play, sensory play and child-led adventure sessions.
This isn't a pay-and-play soft centre, it's a charity setup specifically for disabled children and young people aged from birth to 18. The activities on offer are adventure play sessions, messy and loose-parts play, water and sand play, and sensory movement work, and from what they say it's all child-led rather than run to a timetable, which matters if your child has a day where the plan needs to change halfway through.
You start with a free taster session before committing to anything, which is a sensible way round it since membership isn't nothing. It's £8 a month per family for full access to all their Scotland locations, or if you'd rather pay as you go there's a visiting membership at £20 for five visits or £30 for ten. No diagnosis or referral paperwork is needed to get in the door, which strips out a layer of admin that a lot of similar services demand.
One thing to plan around: you can't drop your child off and head to the café. A parent or carer has to stay on site and support their child throughout, with trained playworkers there to facilitate rather than supervise. That's fair enough given what the sessions involve, but it does mean blocking out the whole visit rather than nipping off for an hour.
There's also a school visits side to things, running in term time, so if you're weighing this up as a family option versus something through your child's school it's worth knowing both exist.
