BUGGY FRIENDLY

What it’s like

Free woodland park by the Clyde with bouldering rocks, bike trails and a meadow big enough for a proper picnic.

This one's all outdoors: a riverside boardwalk, forest trails and a big open meadow to spread a blanket in. The site lists Scotland's first outdoor bouldering park here too, which is the bit that'll get talked about on the way home if you've got a kid who fancies scrambling over rocks rather than just looking at them. There's a bike skills area as well, so if you've brought wheels along it's not just a walk in the woods.

It's free to get in, which makes it an easy one to just turn up to without weighing up whether it's worth the money. The trails are built for wheelchair access and it's pushchair friendly throughout, so buggies aren't a problem on the boardwalk or the main paths. There's an accessible toilet and a Changing Places facility too, which a lot of outdoor parks don't bother with.

Picnics are allowed in the meadow, so that's your lunch sorted if the weather plays ball, though there's nothing here to fall back on if it doesn't. Being all outdoors, a wet day makes the boardwalk and trails a different, muddier proposition, so it's worth thinking about footwear before you set off. Blue badge parking is available if you need it.
