What it’s like

White water tubing, kayaking and paddleboarding on a sealed canal basin, with wetsuits and buoyancy aids supplied.

This is a wet suit and get-in-the-water sort of place, not a watch-from-the-bank one. Kids paddleboard, kayak, try white water tubing or duckies, and there's an open water swim option too, plus land-based stuff like archery and bushcraft for when they need a break from the water. The site is upfront that you'll get wet on most sessions, and they mean it as a feature rather than a warning.

Ages run from 7 to 16 across the kids' sessions, and there's a fair bit of choice depending on how confident your child is in the water. A taster paddleboard or kayak session for a family is £29.44, the Kidz Splash Zone is £23.36, and if they take to it there are 3 week progression courses for £98.60. Serious Fun Kayaking Club is the outlier at £2, which looks like a low-commitment way to try it before committing to the pricier stuff. Summer Adventure Camps run as full weeks (£233.64), full days (£47.20) or half days (£26.92), and there's an October holiday camp too at £42.06.

Wetsuits and buoyancy aids are provided, so you don't need to kit anyone out beforehand, and the canal basin is sealed and filtered rather than open canal water, with test results kept on file in the office if you want to see them. There's no café on site. Changing rooms have showers and toilets, split for under and over 18s, and the site says it's fully accessible with an alarm in the loo and an accessible pontoon down to the water.

One thing to flag: cancel less than two weeks before your session and there's no refund. Parking's free on site, which takes one cost off the day at least.

Plan your visit

How much does it cost?

A family taster in kayaking or paddleboarding is £29.44, the Kidz Splash Zone is £23.36. Prices go up from there for progression courses and camps, and the cheapest way in is the £2 Serious Fun Kayaking Club.

What ages is this for?

The kids' sessions run from 7 to 16. Younger or less confident swimmers might suit the Kidz Splash Zone before moving on to full kayak or paddleboard sessions.

Will my child actually get wet?

Almost certainly, and the site says that's the point of it. Pack a full change of clothes and don't expect to stay dry watching from the side.

Do I need to bring my own wetsuit or kit?

No, wetsuits and buoyancy aids are supplied along with all the equipment for your session.

Is the water clean?

It's a sealed canal basin rather than open canal water, filtered and treated, with lab test results kept in the office if you want to check them yourself.

Is there parking?

Free parking on site.

Is there anywhere to eat?

There's no café on site, so bring food or plan to eat before or after your session.

What happens if we need to cancel?

You get a refund if you cancel more than two weeks before your session starts. Inside that window, you won't.

Do you run birthday parties?

There are SUP and kayak birthday party sessions listed, both around £23.

Is it wheelchair accessible?

The site describes itself as fully accessible, with an alarm in the accessible toilet and an accessible pontoon down to the water.

What if the weather turns bad?

Sessions can be cancelled in extreme weather or lightning storms.

How do we book?

Everything is booked through the website, where you can search by date or by activity.
