The Kiln

What it’s like

Paint pottery or mix up slime and squishies, both at £15 a head, booking required.

Two things happen here: you pick a piece of pottery and paint it, or you get stuck into the slime and squishy workshop. Both are £15, which puts them on a par with most paint-your-own studios, and both need booking ahead rather than a walk-in.

The opening hours are worth knowing before you plan around it. Thursday is a short window, 10 till 2:30, while Friday through Sunday runs later, up to 5:30. Saturday and Sunday start at 11 rather than 10, so a lazy weekend morning still leaves time to get there.

Slime making sounds like the messier, louder option and pottery painting the calmer one, so it's worth thinking about which mood your kids are in that day. If you've got a birthday coming up, they do parties built around either activity, or both, from £180 for 15 children, which works out at £12 a head and includes the room for the group.

There's no mention of food on site, so this reads as an activity booking rather than a full afternoon out with a café attached. Go in knowing what you're there for, get the pot painted or the slime made, and head off for lunch elsewhere.
