What it’s like
Take the controls of a Boeing 737 or Airbus A320 simulator and land it yourself, no pilot's licence needed.
This is a proper flight simulator, not an arcade game bolted to a chair. You book a session, pick your aircraft, either the Boeing 737-800 NG or the Airbus A320, and then you're in the cockpit flying it, with someone on hand if you've never touched a yoke in your life. You even get to choose which airport you take off from when you book.
It suits a decent range of ages, from young kids up to fourteen, but anyone under fourteen needs an adult with them in the room. Worth knowing too that the simulator space is tight, so a child needs to fit comfortably in a seat rather than a car seat. That's not a huge ask for most kids old enough to enjoy it, but it's the kind of detail you want to know before you turn up rather than after.
The price reflects the kit: £44 for a single simulator experience, or £80 if you fancy both the 737 and the A320 in one visit. That's a proper day-out spend rather than a spontaneous one, but the memory of landing a jet probably justifies it more than most soft play sessions do.
Booking is essential, though they're flexible about it, appointments can go in with as little as an hour's notice, and once booked you've got up to 24 months to use it. It's a short walk from Newcastle Central Station if you're coming by train, and there's parking on site if you're driving.
