What it’s like
A bouldering wall for kids from 4 up, but public opening hours are tight so plan around the Saturday slot.
This one's a proper climbing wall, not a soft play with a bit of climbing bolted on. Kids get stuck into bouldering, and there's a kids club from age 4 upwards if you want them properly taught rather than just scrambling about. Supervising adults go in free, which is a nice touch if you're not climbing yourself and just want to watch from the side.
Here's the catch, and it's a big one: this is mainly a membership gym, so public walk-in access is limited to Saturday afternoons, 1pm to 5pm, in autumn and winter. Turn up any other time without membership and you're out of luck. There's no need to book for that Saturday slot, though they do ask you to watch the induction video and register beforehand to save faffing about on the day. Annual membership is £199 for an adult if you know you'll be back every week, which only really stacks up if you're climbing more than a couple of times a month.
Cost for the walk-in session is £9.50 for an adult, £7.50 for a junior, over 60 or student, and £5 for under 5s. Shoe hire is on top, £2.50 for adults and £1.50 for juniors, so factor that in if nobody owns climbing shoes already. It's not the cheapest afternoon out for a family of four once you've added shoes, but you're not paying for a fairground ride, you're paying for a proper wall.
Birthday parties are worth a mention if your kid is climbing-mad. Up to 8 children gets you 45 minutes of climbing with an instructor plus an hour in the party room for £120, usually on a Saturday at 10:30 or 11am. Summer gets very busy and parties become unlikely then, so if you want one, autumn or winter is the better bet. Worth knowing too that the wall shuts for a few days several times a year for route setting, so a wasted Saturday trip isn't impossible if the timing's unlucky.

Plan your visit
Do we need to book for the public session?
No, just turn up on the Saturday slot. They'd rather you watch the induction video and register beforehand though, to save time once you're there.
How much does it cost?
£9.50 for an adult, £7.50 for a junior, over 60 or student, and £5 for under 5s. Shoe hire is extra, £2.50 or £1.50 depending on age.
When can the public actually visit?
Saturday afternoons only, 1pm to 5pm, and that's just for autumn and winter. The rest of the week is members only.
Is it any good for younger kids?
There's a kids club from age 4, and under 5s get their own price for the public wall, so it's not just for big kids.
Do supervising parents have to pay?
Supervising adults go free if they're not climbing themselves.
Can we book a birthday party?
Up to 8 children for £120 gets 45 minutes of climbing with an instructor and an hour in the party room, usually Saturday mornings. Summer's their busy season so parties are less likely then.
Is membership worth it?
Only really if you'll be climbing more than twice a month, otherwise the walk-in price works out cheaper. Members get much wider access through the week, early mornings included.
