What it’s like
Real rock faces, caves and bike trails around Bamford, taught in small groups rather than a taster and out you go.
This isn't a climbing wall in a warehouse. Courses here happen on actual Peak District rock and in actual cave systems, with mountain biking and bouldering on offer too. Under 13s can only come through private family bookings rather than the standard public courses, so if you've got a seven-year-old keen to try climbing you'll be arranging a session tailored to them rather than dropping into a group class.
The half day rock climbing taster is £79, or £109 for the full outdoor day, which feels steep next to a soft play but makes more sense once you clock it's a proper instructor and real crags rather than a plastic wall. If your kids get on with it, the two day beginner course is £199 and improvers is £229. Navigation is priced in three stages too: £109 for Foundations, £199 for Intermediate, and £219 for the Advanced Gold NNAS course, so map reading can go from first steps to something genuinely serious.
Days run 9am to 4.30pm on non-residential courses, met somewhere convenient on the morning, and Monday to Friday the centre itself is open 9.30am to 5.30pm. That's a proper full day out, so pack a lunch because you're bringing your own food and drink, nobody's feeding you on site. Climbing shoes can be hired if you're on a climbing course, but navigation courses need your own map and compass, which is an easy thing to forget until you're stood in a car park without one.
Parking at the Adventure Hub itself is limited, with overflow at the Garden Centre car park a 200 metre walk away. If you fancy leaving the car altogether, it's a 10 minute walk from Bamford Railway Station.
