What it’s like

Full-day sports camp where kids pick a new sport each session, from netball and rugby to gymnastics and swimming.

The whole day is built around choice. Every session your child picks a sport from netball, rugby, football, gymnastics, cricket, hockey, tennis or swimming, and after 15 minutes' break they choose again for the next one. If they'd rather stick with a mate all day, they just need to pick the same sport at each session, which solves the "will my child know anyone" worry without you having to ask.

Structured sports run 9am to 3.45pm, but the day itself stretches from 8am to 5.45pm, so it works properly as a full childcare day rather than just a morning activity. That length is a big part of what you're paying for. Junior camp is £26 a day and senior camp £39, which is a noticeable jump if you've got kids in both age bands, though there's a 10% discount for booking ahead and Tax-Free Childcare is accepted. Year 9 and up have their own Leaders Academy track at £19.50, aimed more at building coaching and leadership skills than just playing sport all day.

Coaches are qualified to Level 2 or above and some have professional playing backgrounds, which shows in the sport choice on offer, hockey included. If hockey's on your child's list, pack a mouth guard and shin pads, they're not provided. The site is Ofsted-registered, so the usual staff-to-child ratios and welfare checks apply, and if your child has additional needs the camp asks for a pre-booking consultation so each place gets looked at individually rather than assumed to fit.

Camps run across most school holidays, including a two-week Easter block and seven weeks over summer. Birthday parties are also on offer, sports-themed, from £395 for up to 25 children, with two hours of venue hire and 80 to 90 minutes of actual coaching built in.
