What it’s like

Kids from 8 get onto a proper 950m floodlit outdoor circuit to drive real go-karts, not the shopping-centre version.

This one's for kids who've outgrown the indoor kart tracks and want the real thing. The circuit runs 950m outdoors and it's floodlit, so it's not just a fair-weather setup. Cadet karts start at 8 years old, junior karts step up from 11, and there's a minimum height on top of the age for each class, so a small-for-their-age eight-year-old might not get in a cadet kart on the day.

You can turn up and try an Arrive & Drive session without booking ahead, though calling first to check availability sounds like the sensible move rather than driving out and finding it full. Every under-16 needs a parent or guardian with them on site the whole time, no dropping off and coming back later.

Footwear is a proper faff worth planning for. No open toes or heels, and if the circuit's wet your shoes are getting wet and dirty with it, so an old pair to change into afterwards is a good shout rather than ruining your decent trainers. Parking's free on site, and there's a café and toilets for the waiting parent or sibling too young to drive.

If you're after a weekend junior party in spring or summer, that's the one to watch. Weekends through those months tend to fill up with stag and hen parties instead, and the site is upfront that those can get boisterous, so junior parties are mostly a Monday to Friday booking then. It sounds like a phone call to reception is worth it if a Saturday is the only day that works for you.

Plan your visit

How old do kids need to be to drive?

Eight for cadet karts, with a minimum height of 1.2m. Junior karts start from 11 with a 1.4m minimum height.

Do we need to book ahead?

Arrive & Drive sessions are sometimes possible without booking, but they recommend calling first to check there's space.

Can we book a birthday party at the weekend?

Not usually in spring and summer, weekends tend to be taken up with stag and hen parties then. Junior parties run Monday to Friday in those months, though it's worth calling reception to ask about a specific Saturday or Sunday.

What should kids wear on their feet?

Closed-toe shoes with no heels, nothing open. If the circuit's wet your footwear will get wet and dirty, so bring an old pair to change into after.

Do parents need to stay with younger kids?

Yes, anyone under 16 must have a parent or guardian with them on site at all times.

Is there parking?

Free parking on site.
