What it’s like
A scout group where kids aged 4 to 25 try camping, climbing, canoeing and abseiling instead of just hearing about them.
This is a scout group, so the point is doing rather than watching. Kids get stuck into camping and hiking, and there's climbing and abseiling for anyone who fancies a bit of height. Water gets a good look in too, with swimming, canoeing, kayaking and sailing all on the list of things they do.
The age range runs from 4 up to 25, which covers everything from the youngest section learning to pitch a tent to older teens taking on proper expeditions. Cycling and skateboarding show up alongside the more traditional scouting stuff, and there are games and teamwork challenges woven through, which is really the backbone of what scouting is trying to teach.
It's not a drop-in activity centre. You're signing up to a group with sections by age, and the variety of things on offer, from abseiling to sailing, suggests it's not a one-activity-a-term outfit.

Plan your visit
What age can kids join?
The group takes children from age 4 right up to young adults of 25, so there are sections for different stages.
What kind of activities do they actually do?
Camping, hiking, swimming, climbing, abseiling, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, cycling and skateboarding all feature, alongside games and teamwork challenges.
Is this a one-off activity or an ongoing group?
It's a scout group you join, not a single session, so kids build up skills like climbing and sailing over time rather than trying them once.
Do you need to be experienced at things like climbing or sailing to join?
No, scouting is built around learning these skills from scratch, so it suits kids who have never abseiled or paddled a canoe before.
Is it just for boys?
Modern scout groups take both boys and girls across all the age sections.
