What it’s like

A group campsite near Stone where scout, guide and other youth groups can spend a few days abseiling, axe throwing, crate stacking and pond dipping.

This one's not for a family weekend with a tent in the boot. Kibblestone books out to organised groups, scout and guide troops mostly, but other youth and non-scouting organisations can come too, and once you're in the activity list is properly long. There's climbing on real sandstone crag, abseiling, high ropes for team building, a Jacob's Ladder that gets harder the higher you go, and the sort of daft-sounding but genuinely popular crate stacking where the challenge is just staying upright on top of a wobbling tower of milk crates.

Beyond the adrenaline stuff there's a gentler side too. Pond dipping, a farm experience where kids help look after the animals, orienteering round the grounds, and pedal boats if the weather's playing along. Rafting runs May to September, so a spring trip misses it, worth factoring in if that's the one your group has its heart set on. Archery is under cover, which is one less thing to worry about if the forecast is rubbish.

Practically, it works like any group campsite: you book ahead, and once your slot is confirmed you'll be asked for a deposit within 14 days or the booking drops without any further warning, which feels a bit unforgiving if your treasurer is slow. Vehicles aren't allowed on the actual camping fields, so you drive round to unload near your pitch and then park up properly, and the car park itself holds up to 200 cars. Quiet time is 10.30pm to 7am, which is fair enough when you've got several groups camped near each other.

There's wifi in the buildings, accessible toilets and wetrooms on site, and they'll do a familiarisation visit if you need to check accessibility before committing a group. Winter visits are worth thinking through too, since some of the outdoor activities are more limited once the weather turns.

Plan your visit

Can we bring our own family to camp for a weekend?

No, this one's group bookings only, not open for public camping.

How do we book?

You email or book online, and once availability is confirmed they send you a booking link and a form to fill in. It's not a valid booking until they've had that form back.

What about the deposit?

It's due within 14 days of your booking confirmation. Miss that window and the booking gets cancelled without any further notice, so it's one to sort quickly.

Can non-scout groups book?

They'll also ask for your liability insurance, safeguarding policies and risk assessments once you're booking in.

Is there parking?

There's an on-site car park for up to 200 cars, but it's for campsite users only. Vehicles can't go on the camping fields themselves, so you unload near your pitch then move the car back round.

Can we bring a dog?

Assistance dogs are welcome if you let them know in advance of your visit.

Is rafting available all year?

Rafting runs May to September only. Some other activities may also be more limited over winter.

What time can we check in?

The earliest check-in for both buildings and camping is 5pm on your arrival day, unless you've arranged something separately with the Estate Manager.

Is the site accessible for wheelchair users?

There are accessible wetrooms and toilets on site, and they'll arrange a familiarisation visit if you want to check the site suits your group before booking.
