What it’s like

An independent cinema in the Cultural Industries Quarter with relaxed screenings, a kids menu and a proper café bar for before or after the film.

This isn't a multiplex, so don't expect wall-to-wall blockbusters on every screen. What you get instead is a proper independent set-up: relaxed screenings with no ads or trailers, dementia-friendly screenings on the last Tuesday of the month, and Audio Description or Hearing-Impaired tracks when you need them. If you've got a toddler in tow, babies under one can come into U, PG and 12A films free as "babes in arms", though the site is upfront that they might ask you to step out if things get noisy.

The rule that catches people out is the one on under-12s after 7pm, when they need to be with a parent or guardian rather than off with older siblings. Worth knowing too if you're timing a visit around bedtime. Concession tickets exist for under-15s, students and benefit claimants, but you'll need to show proof, and the discount only applies to U, PG and 12A certificates rather than the whole programme.

There's a Café Bar with a kids menu and lunch deals, plus a Kitchen serving food daily, so a trip here can easily stretch either side of the film itself. Access is genuinely well thought through: wheelchair spaces in every screen bookable online, accessible toilets, step-free access throughout, and free companion tickets if you need one. The Box Office lift is currently out of action, so build in ten extra minutes if you need the alternative route.

There's no car park on site, which is the one real faff if you're driving in. The nearest option is Q-Park Charles Street, about three minutes' walk, with a 50% discount code if you book through the cinema. If you're coming by train or tram it's easier: the Hallam University tram stop and Sheffield railway station are both about five minutes on foot.
