What it’s like

A marina-side studio where kids hand build, throw on the wheel or paint ceramics, with birthday parties on offer too.

You turn up, pick a piece, and get stuck in: hand building, having a go on the pottery wheel, or just decorating a ready-made ceramic. It is the sort of session where the finished mug or bowl becomes the thing your child brings up for weeks afterwards, glaze splatters and all.

Term-time opening is a proper patchwork, so it pays to check which day you are going. Monday's a short one finishing at 3:30pm, Tuesday runs right up to 8pm, and Wednesday and Thursday both split into a morning slot and an evening one. Saturday is the tightest window, just 10:30am to 2:30pm. School holidays are mostly a no-go, which is a bit of a faff if half-term is when you actually have the time free.

Birthday parties are clearly a big part of what they do. A children's party runs 1.5 hours, £140 for up to six kids and £15 for each extra up to ten, while an adult party gets 2 hours for £210 up to six people. No food or drink is allowed during the children's parties, which is worth building into your plans if you were picturing cake at the table. Bookings for parties go months ahead, so this isn't one to leave until the week before.

The studio sits in Ladybee Marina, close to Southwick station and the 700 bus stop, with paid parking in the marina car park or free street parking just behind. Booking online only stretches 3 months ahead, and you pay upfront with no refunds.
