What it’s like
Local history displays and a climb up a lighthouse-style tower for views over the town and coast.
This is a small-town museum with a big claim to fame, the tower. Climb the lighthouse-style steps and you get a proper look over Sheringham's rooftops to the sea, which is the bit that'll stick in a child's memory long after they've forgotten the display cases downstairs. Those displays cover the town's history, and there are workshops and drop-in activities running too, so it's not all glass cabinets.
The ticket price stings a bit less once you realise it's an all-day ticket. You can wander out, get lunch in one of the town's cafes, and come back in later, which matters because there's no cafe on site. Adults are £6 on the day or £5.50 if you book online in advance, kids under 16 are £3. Budget an hour and a half at least, more if the workshops catch your child's attention.
The tower is the one catch for buggies or anyone less steady on stairs, it's reached by steep lighthouse-style steps rather than a lift, so that bit of the visit is not for everyone. The rest of the building is properly sorted though, with full lift access to all three floors and ramp access in via the seawall route. It's shut on Sundays and only open March to October, with one exception, they open specially on 31 October for International Gansey Day.
Getting there is easy enough without a car if you're coming by train, the station is regular and the museum is a walk of eight to fifteen minutes from it. If you are driving, there's pay-and-display at the station itself or in two smaller car parks nearer the museum.

How long should we plan for?
An hour and a half or more, longer if there's a workshop on that day.

The main museum has full lift access to all three floors and a ramp route in via the seawall. The tower is the tricky part, it's reached by steep lighthouse-style steps rather than a lift.

Is there parking nearby?
Pay-and-display at the railway station, which is the larger option, plus two smaller car parks closer to the museum near the High Street beach end and off Cliff Road.
