What it’s like
A wartime airfield control tower with displays on life at Seething during the Second World War, open on select Sundays.
This is a proper piece of local history rather than a polished visitor centre: an actual control tower from Seething airfield, kept going by people who clearly care about it, with exhibits and displays telling you what life was like here during the Second World War. It's free to get in, which for a museum with a café and a gift shop on site feels like a decent deal.
The catch is timing. It only opens on the first Sunday of the month between May and October, 10am to 4pm, so you can't just turn up on a whim in February and expect the doors to be open. Get the date in the diary (the 2026 ones are already set: 3rd May, 7th June, 5th July, 2nd August, 6th September, 4th October) and build your day around it, because there isn't a booking link to fall back on if you miss it.
Once you're there, it's a case of wandering the displays at your own pace, then stopping for homemade cake or a burger in the café before you head off. There's free parking on site too, which takes one thing off the list of faff. It suits anyone with a curiosity about the war, and a quiet Sunday wander round genuine wartime buildings is a different sort of day out to the usual soft play or farm park circuit.
