What it’s like
Climb aboard vintage trams, trolleybuses and a light railway that actually take you round the museum grounds.
This one's for kids who like things that move. You don't just look at the old trams and buses here, you ride them, along with trolleybuses and motorbuses that trundle round the site, plus the East Suffolk Light Railway for a proper narrow-gauge chug through the grounds. Little enthusiasts who know their trolleybus from their tram will be in their element, and it beats a museum where everything's behind glass.
There's no booking, so you can just turn up and pay on the door between 11am and 4:30pm. That's handy if the weather forecast changes your plans at the last minute, though it does mean no guarantee of a quieter day if you're hoping to dodge the crowds. A gift shop and café cover the basics for a snack or a souvenir tram to take home.
Dogs are welcome on a lead, and they're even allowed to ride the vehicles with you, which is a nice touch if you don't fancy leaving the family dog in the car. They just have to sit out the café and shop bit. There's dedicated parking for disabled visitors, though worth knowing the car park doubles as a bus station on some event weekends, so if you're driving on one of those days it won't be available.

Do we need to book ahead?
No, just turn up and pay at the ticket office, whether it's a regular open day or a special event.
Can we bring the dog?
On a lead, and they can even join you on the vehicles. Just not into the café or shop.
What are the opening hours?
11am to 4:30pm on regular open days. New Year's Day 2026 runs a bit later, till 5pm.
Is there parking?
There's dedicated parking for disabled visitors, but the main car park gets turned into a bus station for some events, so it's not always available then.
What's actually there for kids to do?
Ride vintage trams, trolleybuses, motorbuses and the East Suffolk Light Railway. It's a hands-on transport museum rather than a look-but-don't-touch one.
