What it’s like

A sandy stretch by a lake with woodland walks and craft sessions, though the splash pad and fishing are both closed for now.

Sand underfoot but no sea, this is a lake beach ringed by woods, and the walking is really the main event. There are nature walks and family walks through the trees, plus craft sessions if you catch one on, which suits a slower sort of day out rather than a splash-about.

Worth knowing before you set off: the children's splash pad is closed and staying that way, and the lido itself is currently shut for fishing after some fish died there. So this isn't the water-play day out the name might suggest right now, it's more of a walk-and-look visit. That's a real downside if a paddle was the whole plan.

Parking is on site but limited, and charges apply, so turning up mid-morning on a nice weekend could mean circling for a space. The H13 and 331 buses stop close by if you'd rather skip that altogether. From October to March the car parks shut at 7pm, which catches people out on the darker afternoons.

There are toilets on site. It suits families happy with a walk and a bit of woodland exploring rather than those banking on splashing about, at least until the pad reopens.
