What it’s like

Bowling, tech darts, curling and shuffleboard under one roof, with kids paying £6 a game whatever they play.

Ten lanes of bowling is the obvious start, but the site lists tech darts, ice-free curling, American pool and shuffleboard as well, so a family that gets bored of one thing after twenty minutes has somewhere else to wander. Under-18s are £6 across the board, which is refreshingly simple when you've got kids who all want to do something different. Adults pay more depending on what they pick, and curling is the one that stings at £32 to £36 off-peak for a grown-up, so that's probably the activity you let the kids have a go on rather than booking a full session yourself.

If you want to mix it up, there's a Mix & Match option, two activities for £9 a child or three for £12, which works out better value than paying for each one separately if you're staying a couple of hours. Food covers pizzas, burgers and wings, and there's a limited-edition Kentucky menu with southern-fried chicken if that's still running when you go. It's a cashless venue though, cards only at the bars, so leave the coin jar at home.

The dress code catches some families out: no sportswear, so football shirts and joggers are off, and bowling shoes need to be flat-soled and non-marking, no flip-flops or heels. There's also a curfew worth knowing before you plan a long evening out, under-18s have to leave by 7pm on weekdays and 5pm on Saturdays, so this is really a daytime or early-evening family trip rather than a Friday night one. Wheelchair users can get to the basement activities by lift, and there's an accessible toilet down there too.
