What it’s like

A lakeside park with playgrounds, boating and model yachting, plus fishing if anyone in your group is patient enough.

There's a proper mix of things going on here. The playgrounds are the obvious first stop with younger kids, but the lake is really what sets this place apart from your average park. You can watch the boating and the model yachting from the banks, which is a nice slow sort of entertainment if you've got a toddler who's happy just pointing at things going past.

If you've got a keen young angler in the family, fishing is on the list too, which isn't something every park in a city can offer. It's worth splitting your visit between the water and the play equipment so nobody gets bored waiting their turn on the slide while someone else watches boats.

There's a café on site, so you're not stuck relying on a packed lunch, though the picnic area is there if you'd rather bring your own and make a proper afternoon of it on the grass. It's an easy park to lose a couple of hours in without much of a plan, letting the kids drift between the playground and the water as the mood takes them.

Is there anywhere to eat?

Do we need to book?

There's nothing to suggest you need to book ahead, it's the sort of park you can just turn up to.

Is it good for a toddler?

The playgrounds work well for younger children, and watching the boats and yachts on the lake is an easy, low effort activity for smaller kids too.
