Gardens & Arboretums in Cardiff
Cardiff itself doesn't have a big formal garden to point you at, but Roath Pleasure Gardens is a lovely stand-in. It's a lakeside park close to the centre with playgrounds for the kids, boating, model yachting to watch, and a spot of fishing if someone in your group has the patience for it. There's a cafe and picnic tables, so you can easily make a morning of it. If you fancy something more like a proper garden, it's a longer trip out to Bristol for The Organic Garden, from £8. It has meadows and a sculpture trail for older children to wander, plus a children's garden running two-hour gardening and art sessions that suit younger ones who like getting their hands dirty. It's dog friendly, wheelchair accessible and there's a cafe and gift shop on site. Roath is the free, closer option; Bristol is the day trip.
