What it’s like

A lake full of watersports to try, from kayaking and paddleboarding to sailing, plus high ropes and archery on dry land.

This one's built around the water. You can have a go at kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding or sailing on the lake, and if that's not enough there's high ropes, archery and fishing on the land side too. It's the sort of place where you turn up planning one activity and end up trying three, though pacing yourself is probably wise given the list.

Walking and cycling trails run round the lake as well, and the site says the paths are maintained for both pushchairs and wheelchairs, which is a nice touch if someone in your group isn't up for archery but still wants to be outside. The Activity Centre runs 10am to 4pm across its open months, April through June, then September to December, and the café keeps the same hours Tuesday to Sunday, so you can fuel up before or after.

If you've already got your own kayak, canoe, dinghy or paddleboard, you can just launch it, which is handy if you're not fussed about hiring kit. There's a gift shop for the inevitable "can I get something" moment on the way out, and dogs are welcome if yours likes a lakeside walk while you're busy with an oar.
