What it’s like

A quarry lake turned adventure ground where you can zip 50 metres off a cliff, drop on a giant swing, or bounce round an aquapark.

You go for the cliff. The zip wire flies you 50 metres across the quarry at 40mph, and the giant swing drops you from 170ft above the lake, both walk-up, no booking needed, so you queue and go. They mention the youngest to do the zip so far was 2, though most families will find the swing and zip suit the slightly older kids who fancy a scream. Little ones aren't left out either: Bambini electric karts run for 3 to 6 year olds at £2 a go, which is about as cheap as thrills get here.

The aquapark is the one to save for last if you've got a warm day and older kids who can swim, since it's inflatables, trampolines and monkey bars out on the lake and it isn't cheap at £25. Karting runs on an 800m all-weather track, with family sessions open from age 7 and adult sessions from 16, plus double and triple sessions if one go round isn't enough. Axe throwing is a 12+ thing, and there's open water swimming in the lake for £3.50 if you just fancy a dip rather than a ride.

Entry itself is free. You can turn up, sit on the lawn, eat from the food kiosk and watch everyone else fly off a cliff without spending a penny, and picnics are allowed too. It's a cashless site though, so every ride gets booked and paid online or on the day by card, no cash accepted anywhere. Wheelchair users can get on the zip wire and giant swing with staff support, and the site's a short walk from Menheniot train station if you don't fancy the drive.

Food is simple kiosk stuff: bacon baps, hot dogs, nachos, jacket potatoes, ice cream, all under a fiver mostly. It's open Friday to Sunday, 9am to 5pm, and with rides costing per go rather than one flat entry price, a visit can be as short as one zip and a bap or a full day of karting, aquapark and axe throwing if the budget stretches.

Food
On-site food kiosk with bacon baps, hot dogs, sausage rolls, nachos, paninis, jacket potatoes, drinks and ice cream (£1.20-£5.00)

Getting there by bus or train
Right next to Menheniot Train Station
  • It's cashless throughout, so have a card ready even for the food kiosk
  • Grand Prix karting sessions (10-20 people) are phone bookings only, not online
  • A second go on the zip or swing is cheaper than the first, worth doing back to back
  • Axe throwing is 12+, so younger siblings will be watching that one from the sidelines

Plan your visit

Do we need to book the zip wire or swing in advance?

No, both are walk-up attractions. Turn up and queue.

How much does it cost to get in?

Entry itself is free. You only pay per ride, so a zip wire go is £15 and a second ride the same day drops to £7.50.

Is there a minimum age for the zip wire?

There's no strict minimum stated. The youngest person to do it so far was 2 years old.

What about really young children?

Bambini electric karts are for 3 to 6 year olds and cost £2 a session, which is the gentlest thing on site.

Can you pay with cash?

It's a cashless venue, so bring a card and expect to book rides online or on arrival by card.

What's the aquapark like?

Inflatables, trampolines and monkey bars out on the lake, at £25 a session unless you're in a group of 20 or more, when it drops to £20.

Is karting only for adults?

Family karting sessions are open from age 7, with adult-only sessions from 16. There are also double and triple session options if you want more track time.

What time does it open?

Friday to Sunday, 9am to 5pm.

Is there food on site?

A kiosk does bacon baps, hot dogs, nachos, jacket potatoes and ice cream, mostly under a fiver. Picnics on the lawn are fine too if you'd rather bring your own.

Can wheelchair users take part?

Staff can support wheelchair users onto the zip wire and giant swing.

Is it easy to get to without a car?

It sits right next to Menheniot train station, so it's doable by train. Plymouth's about 55 minutes away by car if you're driving.

Can you swim in the lake without doing a ride?

Open water swimming is £3.50 if you just want a dip rather than the zip or swing.
