What it’s like
Free outdoor play park with climbing walls, a zip slide and ground-level trampolines to bounce off before you've even had a coffee.
This is the sort of park where you turn up with no plan and the kids just scatter. There's a climbing tower and climbing walls, a zip slide, bouncing discs and trampolines set into the ground, plus swings and balance beams for the ones who want to wobble rather than launch themselves off things. Talk tubes are a nice touch if you've got two kids who like shouting at each other from a distance, which, let's be honest, most of them do.
It's free to get in, which counts for a lot when you've got more than one child and a soft play bill in the back of your mind. There's an outdoor gym too if you fancy pretending you're going to use it while actually just watching from a bench, and walking and cycling routes running through the park if the play area itself doesn't tire everyone out.
Food-wise there's a catering kiosk, Food Lovers Café, doing breakfast, lunch, hot drinks and snacks, so you're not relying on a flask and a packet of biscuits. Worth knowing the café kiosk and the multi sports pitch were opening in autumn after the initial summer opening, so if you're going early in the season those bits might not be running yet.
Being outdoor and free, this isn't a booked-slot, timed-session sort of visit. It's the turn-up-when-you-fancy-it kind, which suits a spontaneous Saturday morning far better than a soft play with a two-hour clock ticking.
