What it’s like
A big outdoor park with adventure playgrounds, funboats and mountain bike trails to burn a whole afternoon on.
This is a proper outdoor sprawl rather than one attraction, so the day shapes itself around whatever your kids fancy first. There's a natural play trail with adventure equipment for scrambling about on, a nature trail through woodland and grassland if you want a calmer stretch, and mountain bike trails plus wheeled sports facilities for anyone who's brought a bike or scooter along. Family funboats are on the list too, which is the sort of thing that'll get mentioned at bedtime even if everything else is forgotten by teatime.
Because it's spread out and mostly outdoors, it suits a family happy to walk between bits rather than one fixed play area. Younger children will probably gravitate to the play trail, while older ones who want speed and distance have the bike trails to disappear into. It's not the kind of visit you can do in half an hour, more a bring-wellies-and-a-flask sort of afternoon.
Worth knowing before you turn up: the watersports centre is closed for major refurbishment at the moment, so if funboats on water was the main draw, check what's actually running when you get there. There's also some access disruption right outside main reception due to resurfacing work, and they say to call ahead if you'll need assistance getting in. Neither of those rules out a good day, they just mean it's not quite the full park in action right now.
There's parking on site including blue badge spaces and bike parking, which is handy if you're arriving on two wheels as much as four.
