What it’s like

A big outdoor romp of go karts, zip slide, toboggan run and bouncy pillows with free parking and a picnic area.

This is a proper outdoor sprawl rather than one big attraction, which means the kids bounce between go karts, a zip slide, a toboggan run and the bouncy pillows without ever quite finishing. There's a sand pit and ride-on toys for the smaller ones, a straw fortress and tractor climbing frame for the ones who want to clamber, and footgolf if you fancy something a bit calmer yourself. The barrel train and bumper boats are extra fun on top, and the bumper boats cost a bit more again, so factor that in if you know your child will ask.

It's not a cheap day out. £14 a child from age two, £8 for an adult, and under-twos are £5, which stings a bit given they'll mostly be in the sand pit. The family ticket at £42 for two adults and two kids works out kinder if you're a four, with extra children at £9.50 each. Parking's free at least, and you can bring your own picnic if you don't fancy paying twice.

The site only runs from the end of March or early April through to the end of October, so this isn't a wet-Tuesday-in-January fallback. Some of the bigger draws, the bumper boats, barrel train, nature trail and crazy golf, all shut at 4pm even though the park runs till 5, so if your child has their heart set on the barrel train, don't leave it till the last hour. Under-16s need an adult with them at all times, which is more a note for older kids who might want to wander off on their own.

There's hot food, drinks and ice cream on site if you don't fancy the picnic tables, and the whole place is step-free with an accessible toilet, so a buggy or a wheelchair isn't a problem getting about.
