What it’s like

Two 25-minute laser tag games in a multi-level arena, plus an arcade wristband if the kids want more after.

The laser tag session here is an hour all in, split into two 25-minute missions across a multi-level arena. That's a decent length for it: enough time to actually get good at it by the second game, without dragging on so long that a six-year-old flags halfway through. Six is the minimum age, so this one's for kids who can handle a dark room and a bit of running about rather than the toddler crowd.

£8 a head for laser tag isn't pocket change, and if you fancy the arcades too there's a separate wristband, £8 for thirty minutes or £12 for the hour, loaded onto a Tap & Play card. Do both and you're looking at a proper chunk of the day's budget gone before lunch, but it's an hour of laser tag and an hour of arcade games, which for a rainy Tyneside Saturday is not a bad trade.

Walk-ins are allowed but not guaranteed, and they say weekends and school holidays are the times you're most likely to be turned away without a booking. Birthday parties get their own room with a dedicated hour of gameplay, and if you want the food package (chips with sausage, chicken, cod or fish fingers, plus a drink, £6.50 a head) that's only on offer at weekends and in the holidays. Bring your own food in off-peak and it's free, which is worth knowing if you're trying to keep the party bill down.

It's card only, so leave the loose change at home, and there's an accessible toilet plus a carer wristband scheme if you need it. Picnics are fine if you'd rather eat what you've brought than buy in.
