What it’s like

An indoor skatepark in Plymouth where kids from four can ride boards, scooters or BMX with proper ramps to learn on.

This is an indoor skatepark rather than the ice rink you might expect from the name, and once you know that, it makes a lot more sense. Kids ride skateboards, scooters, BMX or roller and in-line skates on the ramps, and there's beginner tuition for both skateboarding and scootering if your child has never dropped in before. The minimum age is four, though the site is honest that a four-year-old needs to actually be steady on a board before you bring them down, not just keen.

Under 10s have to be accompanied by an adult the whole time they're on the ramps, and anyone under 16 needs a helmet on, full stop. That's a fair rule for a skatepark but it does mean you're not getting a coffee break while they ride if your child's on the younger side. There's somewhere to watch from if you'd rather stand back once they're old enough to go it alone.

Money-wise, beginner tuition sessions on Monday and Wednesday are £10, and if you want one-to-one time with an instructor that's £25 an hour. Hire is £7 for a skateboard and £3 each for a helmet, knee pads, elbow pads or wrist guards, which adds up if nobody owns their own kit yet. Walk-ups are possible if there's space, but they'd rather you booked ahead, especially for weekend sessions which get busy.

It's closed Tuesdays and Thursdays through the winter, so check which day you're planning around. There's a café on site and free parking, including a rear car park, and birthday parties can take over the whole skatepark for up to 30 riders with parents watching for free.

Plan your visit

How much does it cost?

Beginner tuition on Monday or Wednesday is £10. One-to-one tuition is £25 an hour, and hire for a board or safety kit is £7 or £3 a piece.

Do we need to book?

Booking online in advance is recommended, especially for weekend sessions which fill up. Walk-ups are possible if there's still space, and you can pay cash at the door.

What's the minimum age?

Four years old, but the site says young riders need to be genuinely steady and comfortable on a board before coming down.

Do under-10s need an adult with them?

Yes, a parent or guardian has to be on site the whole time for anyone under 10.

Is a helmet compulsory?

For anyone under 16, yes. Full protective gear is recommended for everyone, but only the helmet is a strict rule.

Can we hire helmets and pads?

Helmet hire is £3, and knee pads, elbow pads and wrist guards are £3 each. Skateboard hire is £7 regardless of size.

What can kids ride there?

Skateboards, scooters, BMX bikes and in-line or roller skates. No motorised rides and no three-wheeled scooters.

What days is it open?

It's open Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday in winter, and closed Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Is there parking?

Free parking on site, plus a rear car park area as well.

Is there anywhere to eat or watch from?

There's a café on site, and somewhere to sit and watch the ramps. Food and drink isn't allowed on the ramps themselves.

Can we book a birthday party?

Private hire takes up to 30 riders with spectating parents going free. It's £150 for two hours on a weekday or £175 for a weekend evening slot.

Do we need to fill in forms every visit?

A new disclaimer needs signing for each participant every time you book, though it's done automatically through the booking system. Parents sign theirs at the door.
