Southport
What it’s like
A soft play spot with a fitness area alongside the usual climbing and sliding, open every day from 10am.
The soft play frame is the main event, but there's a children's fitness area too, which is a nice change from the usual bash of foam blocks and slides. Pricing is banded by age, so a baby under a year gets in for £2.50 while anyone over three is £7.95, and adults pay £1.50 to sit and watch (or get roped into the ball pit).
Booking is required and it's proper table booking, not just a nod at the door. Last entry is 4pm, with the whole session finishing by 5:40pm, so a late afternoon visit is a shorter one than it looks. If a slot's full, you're told to pick another time rather than turn up and hope, which is a bit of a faff if you're planning on the fly.
Food follows the clock: breakfast only at the 10am session, the adult menu doesn't start until midday, but the children's menu with drinks runs all day. That's handy if your toddler wants lunch at 11 and you don't.
Worth knowing that Playtown sometimes closes for private hire, so a normal opening day can occasionally vanish for a party you didn't know about. Birthday parties here come with characters like Stitch, Gabby and Mario thrown in free, which is a decent perk if you're the one organising the cake and balloons.
