What it’s like
Weekend or multi-day Spanish immersion for adults, all conversation with native teachers, no classroom drilling.
This is an adults-only Spanish course built around talking, not textbooks. You spend your time in real conversation with native teachers, with food and social activities woven into the sessions rather than sitting through grammar drills. The urban retreats run over two days, the residential ones stretch to three to five days and add countryside walks between the sessions.
Prices start at £225 for the two-day urban retreat aimed at upper-beginner to advanced speakers, rising to £295 for a beginner-level urban version with 8 to 10 hours of teaching, and £325 if you want the advanced urban retreat with a Mexican cooking masterclass tacked on at the end. The residential retreat is £275 for three to five days, which starts to look like decent value once you factor in the meals. On the residential option, home-cooked vegetarian food is included, with vegan and gluten-free catered for if you ask ahead. Urban retreats leave you to sort your own food, so budget for that on top.
You have to book in advance for any of these, there's no turning up on the day. Once you're booked, the organisers set up a WhatsApp group about a month out so you can meet the other participants and get any pre-retreat nerves sorted before you arrive. Save the cooking masterclass for the advanced urban retreat if you fancy it, it's the one bit that turns the weekend into something you'll be describing to friends afterwards.
