What it’s like
A free Jacobean house in Meersbrook Park where kids can poke round old timber-framed rooms then hit the playground next door.
It's a genuine Tudor and Jacobean house, all done out in period style, so the appeal here is wandering rooms that actually look the part rather than roped-off displays behind glass. Half an hour covers the house for a younger child who wants to move on, but if anyone's genuinely curious about how people lived centuries back you could easily lose an hour poking round.
The real trick is the playground right there in Meersbrook Park. House first while attention spans hold, playground after as the reward, and nobody's dragging anyone back to the car in tears.
It's free to get in, which for a place like this feels like it shouldn't be true. Open weekends only, 10am to 4pm, so don't turn up on a Wednesday expecting it to be there. Parking's free on the road nearby, usually space by the top of the gates into the park, and there's no booking system to fuss with, you just turn up.
One thing worth knowing before you go: it's not wheelchair friendly. There are steps at the front door and again into the parlour, and access is restricted to downstairs only. If that matters for your group, the park itself is obviously open and flat, but the house proper needs some mobility to get round properly.

Nothing, it's free entry.
What are the opening hours?
Saturdays and Sundays, 10am to 4pm. It's not open on weekdays from what's listed.
Do we need to book ahead?
There's no booking link, so it looks like a turn-up-and-see-it kind of visit, though they do take group and school bookings separately.
Is it accessible with a wheelchair or buggy?
Not really. There are steps at the front door and into the parlour, and access is limited to downstairs.
How long should we plan for?
Anywhere from half an hour to over an hour, depending on how into it your kids get. Add more time if you're heading into the park playground afterwards.
