What it’s like

Hands-on clay classes for older kids and teens, from handbuilding to the wheel, with private parties on offer too.

This one's for the older kids, not the toddlers. Handbuilding classes start at 10, and wheel throwing needs a steady hand plus twelve years on the clock. Each person needs their own ticket and an adult has to be there with them, so it's a proper joint activity rather than a drop-off. No experience is needed for either, and the sessions are kept small and relaxed, which is handy if your ten-year-old is nervous about getting it wrong in front of strangers.

For a birthday, they'll set up a private pottery session, and it's not just kids' parties either, they'll do baby showers and hen dos in the same space. You'll want to sort this a few weeks ahead, since four weeks' notice is what they recommend, and there's a 50% deposit to hold the date. Read the cancellation terms before you pay anything: bookings are non-refundable, and you only get a transfer if you cancel more than a week out. Leave it later than that and you lose the slot entirely.

The studio's up on the first floor, reached by external concrete steps with no lift yet. There's parking on site at the business park, though it can fill up when things get busy, plus some on-street options nearby if you'd rather not risk it. Opening hours are a bit scattered too, afternoons and evenings Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, mornings through to mid-afternoon on Saturday, and shut the rest of the week.

If your teenager's into art and you fancy joining in rather than just watching, this is the sort of session where you both come out with something to put on a shelf. Long hair needs tying back for the wheel, and closed-toe shoes are the sensible choice given what you'll be treading in.

Plan your visit

How old do kids need to be?

Handbuilding classes are open from age 10. Wheel throwing needs them to be 12 or over.

Do we need experience?

None needed for either class. They keep sessions small and relaxed so it's easy to settle in even as a beginner.

Can we book a birthday party there?

They do private pottery sessions for birthdays and other occasions. A 50% deposit secures the date and they recommend booking about four weeks ahead.

What if we need to cancel?

Bookings are non-refundable. Cancel more than 7 days before and they'll transfer you to another date, but leave it later than that and you lose the booking.

Is there parking?

Yes, on site at the business park, though it can get busy at peak times. There's also on-street parking nearby on Little London Road, Athol Road and Woodseats Road.

Is the studio accessible if someone struggles with stairs?

The studio is on the first floor and reached by external concrete steps, with no lift currently in place. Get in touch before booking if anyone in your group has access needs.
