What it’s like

Paint a pot from a wall of over 40 animals and figures, then wait for the glazing and firing to finish it off.

The main job here is picking a pot. There are over 40 animals and figurines to choose from, then you sit down and paint it, and the studio glazes and fires it for you afterwards so you don't take home a wet mess. There's also fingerprint art on a party plate and baby handprint or footprint keepsakes if you want something a bit more sentimental than a painted rabbit.

Pots start from £10 and that's before you factor in glazing and firing, which the site says is already included in the price, so at least there's no sting at the till for that bit. Sessions run up to two hours, which feels about right for the painting itself plus the inevitable faffing over colours. They're open late on Fridays and Saturdays until 9pm if you fancy an evening session instead of the usual after-school scramble, though Mondays are a write-off as they're closed.

Parties run £18 a child without food or £25 with it, for up to 13 kids with a minimum of 10, and you're looking at a £200 minimum spend plus a £100 deposit to hold the slot. From October to December parties are squeezed into weekend mornings at 10 or 10.30, or a 4pm after-school slot Tuesday to Friday, so the run-up to Christmas needs booking with that in mind.

If you're after a baby print keepsake, do it midweek. The site is upfront that weekends get too busy to properly support baby prints, which is a fair enough warning but a bit of a faff if a Saturday was your only free morning. Parking's free on site but you do need to register your vehicle with staff, and there's no pram storage, so a buggy is something to think about if you're bringing a baby along for those keepsake prints.

Plan your visit

How much does it cost?

Pots start from £10 and that includes the glazing and firing. Parties are £18 a child without food or £25 with it.

How long does a session take?

Up to two hours for pottery painting.

Do we need to book?

The site doesn't mention an online booking link, but parties need a £100 deposit against a £200 minimum spend, so that side is clearly booked in advance.

Is there parking?

Free on-site parking, but you need to register your vehicle details with staff or risk a fine, since it's a private car park.

Can we book a baby handprint keepsake?

You can, but go midweek. Weekends get too busy for the studio to properly support baby prints.

What about birthday parties?

Parties take up to 13 children with a minimum of 10, run 1.5 to 2 hours, and cost £18-£25 per child depending on whether you add food. Between October and December they're limited to weekend mornings at 10 or 10.30, or 4pm after school Tuesday to Friday.

Is it wheelchair accessible?

Yes, but call ahead if you need extra space so they can sort it out in advance.
