What it’s like

Free walking trails around a nature reserve, with breeding toads to spot if you visit in spring.

This is a spot for a proper wander rather than a big day out with a gift shop at the end. There are walking trails through the reserve, some steep in places, so it's not one for a buggy you're not prepared to push uphill. Spring is when it earns its keep, with breeding toads to look out for between April and August according to the site.

Parking is free, off Egerton Close via Yates Avenue on the A426, which is one less thing to think about. Some of the paths are accessible for pushchairs and wheelchairs, though not the whole reserve. Dogs are allowed too, if you're combining the walk with letting the dog stretch its legs.

There's no entry fee, which makes it an easy one to fit in on a free afternoon without any pressure to make it worth the money. Just don't expect facilities beyond the trails themselves; this is a bring-your-own-snacks kind of visit.
