What it’s like
Free flat-trail walking through marshland, muddy in winter but an easy wander from March to September.
This is a walking spot rather than a playground one: flat trails through marsh that make for an easy stroll with a buggy or a toddler who insists on doing the last bit themselves. There's nothing to pay to get in, which makes it a decent option for a spare hour without having to plan around it.
The ground is soft in places and the site itself says it can flood in winter, so wellies over trainers if you're going between October and February. They reckon March to September is the better window, when the trails are drier and you're less likely to end up ankle deep by accident.
Dogs are welcome but need to be on a lead, worth knowing if you're bringing one along with the kids. Parking is on Grange Avenue and Oak Lane rather than in a dedicated car park, so you're looking for a street spot rather than following signs to an entrance.
There isn't much in the way of facilities here. Pack your own snacks and treat it as the calm bit either side of somewhere busier.
