What it’s like
A farm shop and butchery with a proper on-site café, good for a slow breakfast or a sit-down afternoon tea rather than a big day of activities.
This is a farm shop first, so the main event is browsing the butchery counter and the shelves of local produce, then landing in the café for something to eat. The café seats 50 and cooks everything fresh on site with locally sourced ingredients, from breakfast through to lunch and cake, so it works whether you turn up early or drift in mid-afternoon.
The afternoon tea is the thing to book if you want to make a proper outing of it. It's £21.99 a head, with a Little Oakes version at £12.50 for children, and it's the sort of treat that suits a slower visit rather than one with a toddler who wants to be up and moving. Tables inside can be booked ahead, though they keep a limit on bookings so there's always room for people who just walk in. Outside tables are walk-in only and depend on the weather, which is worth bearing in mind if you're planning to sit out.
Everything is on one level. The shop and butchery run 9 til 5 Monday to Saturday and a shorter 10 til 4 on Sundays, with the café keeping slightly different hours on a Sunday too.
